HR Retention continues contributing into the development of expertise in hot technologies in Ukraine. This time we assisted in organization of Kiev Drupal Camp on the 28-29th of August.

dc52 dc45 dc38

About 200 developers from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova and Belarus, interested in Drupal, participated in the Camp. Ciklum was one of the main sponsors and organizers of the event.

dc33 dc50

dc43 dc42

The event had “open schedule” therefore each participant could declare a topic and become a speaker.

dc30 dc31

In addition at the beginning of the first day Camp Leaders (Yaroslav Azhnyuk and Anna Iurchenko) announced FAQ session where camp participants could brainstorm topics they would like to consider during the Camp and find speakers for those topics. It was a really great initiative as it helped creating live communication between participants; and deliver topics which were interesting for both: speakers and the audience.

dc24 dc32

dc34 dc41

General atmosphere of the Camp was very interactive, democratic, interesting and lively. Presentations ran simultaneously in 3 rooms, so that everyone could choose a topic of their interest.

dc3 dc7

dc1 dc29

dc25 dc21

dc14 dc17

Everyone was able to share own opinion about the event and ongoing speeches in twitter. Free Wi-Fi allowed messages to be projected on the wall at the central hall.

dc26 dc46

Discussions continued during the coffee-breaks and lunch time.

dc27 dc22

dc37

dc2 dc5

Some developers found new ideas and started to implement those.

dc6 dc36

At the end of the first day many participants decided to continue discussing Drupal issues over the glass of beer and went to Bochka pub at Kreshchatyk metro station.

dc10 dc11

dc12 dc13

To encourage the best speakers, Ciklum as a main sponsor, ran a 2 days voting campaign for the best one. As a result participants identified 3 winners who were awarded at the Camp closure ceremony by Ciklum:

  • 3rd place took Alexander Shvets with the topic “What’s new in Drupal7?” He got Ciklum branded T-shirt and book on Drupal.
  • dc40

  • 2nd place took Igor Kandyba with topic “Why do we hate Drupal?” Igor also won a prize for his presentation on FAQ topic. That’s why we presented him with 2 Ciklum branded T-shirts and 2 books on Drupal :)
  • dc44

  • And absolute winner among speakers according to the participants’ votes turned to be Viktor Levandovskiy with the topic “Managing development of Drupal Projects”. Typical management mistakes. He was awarded by Ciklum branded T-shirt, book on Drupal and a presenter to make his future presentations more effective.
  • dc48

Ciklum will continue initiating and supporting activities, aimed at increasing professionalism of Ukranian software developers. We see this to be a strategically important step for maintaining image of Ukraine as attractive outsourcing destination, as well as for acquiring a new image – image of the country where great software development potential is turned into high level expertise, including narrow expertise in the various cutting edge technologies. This transformation will not happen overnight, it will require inspiration, open-mindedness and persistency from IT professionals and contribution and support from IT companies. Ciklum is taking a leading role in this process!

Ciklum paves the way for Trendy IT Communities: iPhone, Drupal, Agile, Cloud Computing, etc. It is a strategic step for Ciklum to ensure Ukrainian IT companies solid presentation in the overall world IT market. We are all witnessing growing competition with other countries where cost is our weakest point. Thus we foresee our niche in being a Talent provider: growing experts in “hot” technologies which will be in high demand in the future. So Ciklum’s initiative to facilitate launch and development of Professional IT Communities resulted in iPhone Developers, Cloud Computing communities, support to Drupal and Agile communities and will continue with Data Visualization, Mobile, Flex developers communities in the nearest future. If you are motivated by receiving and growing expertise in rising and perspective technologies, you are welcome to go for Ciklum’s assistance.
